Background Info
So I have to admit that todays scratching I am not massively happy with, but I hope that you can take something from it, even if its one pattern that you like.
It’s funny really, as when I was starting to scratch back in 2000, I would have loved to have been able to scratch like I did today. Things move on quickly though!
I was going for mostly simple funky scratches today, lots of chirps, chirp flares and transforms but felt that I never really got a good flow going.
In the “say what” sample part of the video at 04:00, I was performing a pattern which is something like a crab or 3 click flare forward and backwards then a release forwards. I heard D- Styles perform something this on Felonious Funk when it first came out and I loved the sound it made. Writing down scratching is difficult, but it might go something like this: say-uh-uh / uh-uh-yas / say what. Speaking of D-Stylez, Dopez just put out another great scratch video tutorial covering some of his techniques.
Todays quote:
“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the … voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”

Reflections On Todays Video
- I pretty much summed it up above!
- I’m still having some slight issues with serato not playing my scratch samples as smooth as I would like. Not sure if its my table or mixer or needles. I will do some more investigation.
- Todays lesson – Mamma said there would be days like this! Don’t give up!
