Hey folks!
Welcome to Day 25 of 30 Days of Scratching. Only 1 week left! This time next week will be the last video in this series! Time flies!
For a full overview and instructions on how to join in please visit 30 Days of Scratching Day 1.
Day 25
Beat used: Gato by Mark Rae (114 BPM).
Scratch Record Used: Enter the Scratch Game 2 by DJ Hertz.
Background Info
Today’s beat was produced by Mark Rae who together with Steve Christian forms one half of British production duo Rae & Christian. Together they founded the “Grand Central Records” label which put out some really great releases. Check it out if you haven’t already and want a little musical inspiration.
My Serato was playing up a little today. My cuts (fast chirps and chirp flares) were not coming out clean as the timecode seemed to stick and jump on screen. Not sure what that is about. It might be the way I have it set up.
I used a digital version of “Enter the Scratch Game 2” for the first time today. I avoided using the standard “ahhh” sample today (even though I love it!) It’s always good to use new and different samples:
- yeh, uh
- 1, 2, 3, 2, 1
- what you wanna do? (pitched up +2 to match the speed of the record)
- holla back
- and you don’t stop
- like this, like that
In other news, did you see my new School of Scratch site? This is my online space where I teach you how to scratch. Just you, me and scratching! Sign up if you would like to be notified when it opens.
Todays quote:
“When you work regularly, inspiration strikes regularly”
– Gretchen Rubin
Substitute the word “work” for “scratch”!

Your Turn!
If you would like to join me in this challenge throughout October / November, post links to your own practice videos in the comments below. Tag your videos on social networks with #studioscratches and #30DaysOfScratching. You don’t have to do the full 30 days so feel free to dip in and out posting your videos where you want to, but it would be super awesome to have you along as company for the full 30 days! Who knows where you might end up!
If you have a beat suggestion or want to send me cool beats to use in this challenge, please email me via the contact page.
