Hey folks, it’s been a little while since I recorded a video (5 months!). I am pleased to present to you a new scratch practice video as I get back in the swing of things.
Not too long ago I used to record scratch videos in the hope that people would comment on and say how “good” I was at scratching. These days, I get way more fulfilment from knowing that my videos help someone else with their scratching or inspire them to practice. It is my sincere hope and desire that this video inspires you:

Scratch techniques used
Try scratching with the turntable motor off (around 3:30 in the video), it makes for some interesting effects! I push the record forwards and then do a series of forward scratches as the platter gets slower and slower. I learnt this from watching DJ Disk playing with Herbie Hancock.
Beat used
“Runnin'” by The Pharcyde (Jay Dee Remix)
You might recognise the sample used also by Nas on “Life’s a bitch”.
The original sample is “Yearning for Your Love” by The Gap Band.
Scratch record used
DJ Vajra Cuts n Drums.
Additional info
This video is posted on my second YouTube Channel shorterocks. I have this second channel to upload videos of me scratching over other peoples beats just incase there are any copyright issues so its separate from the main Studio Scratches YouTube channel.
Would you like to see more of these videos of me scratching over cool hip hop beats? Are they useful to you? Please comment!
Thanks for watching and as always…
Happy Scratching 😀
