Welcome to episode 16 of my DJcity “Scratch Combo of the Month”, shot on a Vestax Handy Trax just for fun!
This month we combine the first 5 sounds of the boomerang with a second sample to create a swinging funky paused combo.
Learning the individual scratches that make up this combo first will definitely help. If you need help with that I recommend diving into my School of Scratch.
If you are a regular crossfader scratch DJ, I recommend learning the individual techniques listed in the breakdown first, then putting them all together using this video as a guide. You do not have to be a hamster / reverse crossfader style DJ to do this combo. It is for everyone! I have a guide to help regular scratch DJs learn with me here.
Have fun with it!
Breakdown
Use a record which has the “beep” sample before the “ahh” sample – I am using baby superseal. Superseal also works. You can also use any 2 samples next to each other.
Phrase 1
Repeat this twice then rewind the record to play the beep which is the sample before ahh on baby superseal / superseal vinyl. Repeat this whole phrase 3 times.
Phrase 2
For the last bar, do 2 boomerangs and end with a drag.
- 2 Boomerangs and a drag.
