Welcome to episode 5 of my DJcity “Scratch Combo of the Month”.
This month we will be creating a funky swing flare combo.
Learning the individual scratches that make up this combo first will definitely help. If you need help with that I recommend diving into my School of Scratch.
Have fun with it!
Breakdown
Part 1:
- Swing Flare (slice, forward dice, reverse dice)
- Play the 1st syllable as a forward scratch / release.
- Play the second syllable as a forward scratch / release.
Part 2:
- Repeat part 1.
- Reverse dice on the “yeh” or 2nd syllable.
- Play the “yeh” or 2nd syllable as a forward scratch / release.
Play part 1 then part 2 alternately over a beat, or however you want!
Scratch Notation
I’m using a new form of notation. Created by myself and GoldVoltron. We are calling it RR Notation. RR stands for Record Release. It tracks the moment of the record.
A line at the end of the arrow means the fader is closed. No line at the end of the arrow means the fader is open. Still in development. Let me know if you have any questions.
