Today I teach you a new combo of Forward > Reverse Crab > Half Chirp / Stab.
Make sure you revisit my forward, crab, chirp and stab tutorials if you haven’t already.
This is a slightly more technical combo scratch, but if you take it slow you will be there in no time at all!
I am using the “Chuckstahhh” Beat from the “Stay Cool – Beats for Scratch Practice Volume 4” beatpack.
I am also using the vinyl Superseal by Dirtstyle / Thudrumble.
Video Tutorial
To summarise
- Open the fader
- Push the record forwards
- Start with the fader open from the previous forward
- Pull the record back
- Crab your fingers to make 3 clicks = 4 sounds
- End with the fader open
Then either part A or B as described below:
- Push the fader shut
- Stab 1
- Stab 2
or
B – Half chirp and stab
- Start with the fader open from the previous forward
- Push the record forward and shut the fader (half chirp)
- Stab
I tend to favour part B as it contains less fader movements but they both sound very similar.
Repeat!
Experiment with more stabs or how about being really adventurous and throwing in some chirps?!
I threw in a small QnA section over this beat too.
Scratch notation
Here is a simple scratch notation to help you break it down even further:
