Hey Folks. I spotted a really great article titled The Breakthrough by Corbett Barr and was struck by how much it relates to scratching.
With kind permission (Thanks Corbett!) I have taken the article and adapted it to having a scratch breakthrough.
What is a scratch breakthrough?
A scratch breakthrough is when you FINALLY understand a certain scratch and your hands catch up to what you feel and hear in your head you can do. It’s that moment when it all clicks and you finally pull off that scratch that you have been practising for weeks or months. It is sweet! My most recent experience of this is when I learnt the boomerang scratch. It took me so long and then after yet more practice, despite wanting to give up… BOOM! There is was! The scratch breakthrough!
I present to you:
The Scratch Breakthrough
You might not have all the pieces yet. (The elements and techniques of the scratch.)
You might not have the confidence. (The belief that you can pull it off.)
You might not have the strength. (The hand and click co-ordination.)
But your next scratch breakthrough is there, waiting for you.
Your next scratch breakthrough could be one more scratch practice away. It could be one more inch from your grasp. It might just need a slightly different perspective or approach. Maybe even a little break, some fresh air and some totally unrelated activity.
Your next scratch breakthrough could be right around the corner, or it could take weeks or months of hard work and practice. You never know.
In any case, the breakthrough is somewhere, there is no question about that.
The only question is: will you keep pushing until you make the scratch breakthrough?
Or will you give up before you get there, never knowing how close it really was?
The cool thing with scratching is that it can teach you much about life, just as life can teach you much about scratching. One influences the other if you let it. There is something bigger at play here.
When was your last scratch breakthrough? Please share in the comments below.
Happy Scratching! 😀
