Back in February, I headed to the Philippines ?? to surf some warm mellow waves for my friend Carla’s birthday, and took a portable turntable with me, just incase there was an opportunity to share the stoke of scratching with others.
Naturally, that opportunity came up and I thought you might like to see what went on.
Surfing and scratching, my two favs! 😀 ???
Part 1 – Single and Unattached at Le Point Bar
Carla hooked me up to play at Le Point Bar who were hosting the after party for this surf contest:
Coast Thru Life Single and Unattached 2017 – A Classic Single Fin Longboard Invitational Contest
Check it out!
After sunset I played some funky hip hop and cut it up fresh:
This was a last minute arrangement. I had one portable turntable and no way to mix so I put on instrumentals in serato internal mode and cut it up and switched tracks drop style. We had some head nodding going on!

Shout out to Art, Cesar and Eric, SoS students who showed up for the night.
I ended up leaving La Union in the north a few days earlier than anticipated to head south back to Manila to stay with School of Scratch student Art and his girlfriend Mar. The idea was to attend a scratch jam event hosted by DJ Trigga and meet some DJs who rumour has it learned a few things using my free tutorials.
Part 2 – Hanging with Art
Art took me to his studio and we got to have a QnA. Art puts in the work and is always practicing, learning and growing. Super proud teacher moment!

Art loves my “happy scratching” video sign off I do in my tuts, so much so that he made this shirt which he wears in his videos in the school. I thought it would funny to wear it myself:
Part 3 – Sessions Bar Sessions
Finally we headed to Sessions Bar for a scratch jam hosted by DJ Trigga
Marv DJ Marr
I have known Marr virtually for a long time and it was great to meet him in person.
He made this video which gives a great overview of the night:
