OK so it’s not Tuesday but I’m sure you want this video tutorial early.
This week, I teach you how to do the Crab scratch. Named because your hand looks like a crab when you do the movements, this scratch is attained by rubbing 3 or 4 fingers from pinky or ring to index over the fader quickly to cut the sound in.
Like any new scratch, the best way to perfect this is lots of practice! Walk around practicing the finger movements without a fader to help your muscles remember.
Once you have the basics down, experiment with timings and swing. Crab forwards and back. Add a stab or a forward here and there.
The beat is #8546 taken from the 85 BPM Hip Hop Instrumental Beats series.

Do u know how long I’ve been waiting for this tutorial??? lol As I’ve told u before I know hoe to do it but still can’t pull it off 100% all the time! So frustrating especially when u make it look so easy. Many thanks anyway

Hey Richie! Happy Christmas to you too. It’s a hard scratch to get for sure. It’s also really hard to do it slowly which is why this video is more of a demo. Hopefully you can get something from it. Keep practicing all the time and you will get it 100% of the time. You could just concentrate on the fader hand and use a looped sample rather than have to worry about the record hand too. great tutorial! i do have 2 questions though, is it normal for the hand on the crossfader to get tired from doing the crab movements?
and how long does this usually take to get the hang of it/master?
i can usually only get it the first or second time then i cant seem to grasp it again after untill a little while later
