Ok, so you proably know by now that I am a scratch DJ and love all that it involves. But I also really love wisdom and learning about life.
For a long time I have kept these areas separate publicly, even though they are intrinsically intertwined into everything I do behind the scenes.
I wondered how can I bring these areas of love together.
This is what happened.
The Concept
What if I can scratch some positive brain programming into your life? Because we all need a bit of that right? I sure do. If my mind isn’t right my scratching isn’t right. I’ve taken mp3s from my favourite teachers and coaches and given them the Emma Short-E scratch treatment.
Optimism vs Pessimism
Stay optimistic Supa Scratch Crew! (That’s my nickname for those of you who follow and support what I do. You are awesome!)
Why not try scratching some positive words and messages today and get a scratch and brain workout?
Hat tip to Arminda Lindsay for being an amazing coach and prompting me to explore the possibilites. (You know how I coach my students to become better scratch DJs in School of Scratch? Well, Arminda coaches me so I can step into what’s possible and create in life in general. I love it.)
Also Jason Hart aka DJ Zerp – I’ve played with this scratch idea in private but he recently brought up the idea of scratching as meditation / relaxation and this is my public offering around this idea.
Words: Steve Chandler.
Beat: sixtytwopointfive by me.
What’s Possible?
What is possible for you today? Could you learn a new technique? Scratch to a different beat? Record a video and get feedback even though you are scared? Reach out to more experienced scratch DJs? Join an online community like School of Scratch? Start your own website or YouTube channel? Ask that club owner about playing?
It’s bigger than scratching too. What’s possible today in your LIFE?!
Words: Arminda Lindsay
Music: Paper Doll by John Mayer
Stay Open
Stay open to the possibility of “what if”. What if you tried something new today? Where would it take you? What might you experience? What might you achieve?
Words: Arminda Lindsay
Beat: John Mayer – Paper Doll.
Is it a Dream or a project
I used to have scratch dreams, then I turned them into projects. Learning a new scratch was a project. Making tutorials was another project. Opening School of Scratch was another. Take it outside the DJ world and it applies to any dream you have in life.
How can you turn your dreams into projects? Take action today (even one small step) and watch what happens! Tell me what happens in the comments.
Words: Steve Chandler
Music: Ugly Duckling – Journey to Anywhere.
I chose this instrumental track to go with these words specifically because it seems dreamlike to me. I also love the lyric in the full version “On a journey to anywhere you can draw your own map”. Because we can dream anything we want and draw our own maps when we start converting those dreams into projects. GO!
How will you reinvent yourself today?
How will you reinvent yourself today? What’s possible?!
