About – Vision and Mission
Scratchy 100 aims to share everything I have learnt and continue to discover since September 2000 when I started my journey of scratching.
Scratchy 100 resulted from the desire to share my love of scratching and what it means to me, with more people, in the desire that the art form will be furthered. I create it with the hope that you will be able to quickly get started on becoming a scratch master and have all the information you need without the need to hunt. I aim to demystify and break it down so anyone can learn with simple steps and practice.
A few notes:
I teach you how to scratch hamster style (cross fader reversed) as this is what is natural for me. You can apply the same principles if you scratch regular with the same result.
I focus solely on scratching. My passion primarily lies with scratching and the art of scratch improvisation and this is what I desire to pass on to you. (I have generally not covered mixing, beat jugging or battling).
Do I need a natural ability to be able to scratch?
In a word… NO! You just need the DESIRE to learn and become good and willingness to practice with patience, persistence and determination. When I first started I had no idea how to scratch or where to begin. All I knew is that I loved hearing scratching and I wanted to do it and become good. That determination brought me to where I am now. I uncovered teaching resources, asked people questions and put in a lot of hours of (I gotta be honest – sometimes frustrating!) daily practice. It does help if you have some idea about music and rhythm but this can be learnt. Be open, positive and playfully inquisitive and you will be surprised at how far you can go!
I look forward to sharing this journey with you!
Please leave comments and encourage each other!
Happy Scratching!
